Como ya se ha vuelto costumbre, los 14 de marzo de cada año se celebra el día de pi (). Como este blog no podía ser la excepción, les dejo con la canción sobre pi que publiqué ya hace algunos meses. Saludos.

Hace 7 dias se celebró el día de Pi o día pi ( Pi Day, en inglés) y alrededor del mundo se celebró este acontecimiento de diversas formas. Algunos preparon Pies de Manzanas, confeccionaron T-shirts con el símbolo de pi ().

Asimismo, algunos crearon canciones sobre este número tan fascinante. Precisamente este último detalle quiero compartir con todos ustedes.

Encontré una canción muy entretenida que se titula «Mathematical Pi» (matemática Pi)

Pi is applicable in any dimension,
At least as far as I know,
If there were no Pi we’d be missing things,
Like marbles and mugs and balls of string,
And sports, such as soccer and curling,
The orbs in their celestial paths,
Navigate along elliptical graphs,
Ellipses have pi in them too,
Just one side of them has grew,
You can see pi in most everything,
It’s in Cornell’s Electron Storage Ring,
And also in slinkies and other springs,
And that’s why it’s important to know pi,

Once one night I had a dream,
That pi was gone and I had to scream,

Hoy se celebra un día especial en el mundo de las matemáticas, el cumpleaños de pi (). Como años atrás comentábamos en una entrada relacionada con curosidades matemáticas, el 14 de marzo de todos los años se celebra el cumpleaños del número pi.

Pero, para los despistados que ignoran el origen de este suceso; les comento que la parte entera 3 y los dos primeros decimales ( 1 y 4 ) del número pi coinciden con la fecha de hoy (14 de marzo) escrita de la siguiente manera . Donde 3 es el mes y 14 el día.

Asimismo, hoy también se celebra el cumpleaños de Albert Einstein.

¡Feliz Día Pi!

Pi is como el aprendizaje… nunca termina.

En la fecha americana (March 14th o 3/14) se celebra en muchos lugares en el mundo, y más especificamente en Internet, el día del número Pi. Ello debido a que en el calendario americano hoy es 3/14, que coincide con el valor inicial de Pi. Es más, el valor que se aproxima en este día esta indicada en la hora 1:59 pm, que tiene como equivalente a 3.14159.

Este número que posee un misticismo muy interesante se ha permitido participar en diversos campos del conocimiento, empezando por la matemática y la física. Tan sólo con escuchar su nombre se nos pone los pelos de punta, pues la lista de sus decimales es infinita.

Sus «fans» también abundan en el mundo, quienes realizan concursos de memorización de los decimales de Pi cada año y una serie de actividades de este número irracional.

Esta celebración se debe al Museo de Ciencias de San Francisco, que lo instauró como día especial para la matemática a pedido del físico Larry Shaw. Como se indica en su página web hay una serie de actividades en este día.

Una curiosidad para terminar. Se recuerda que el último «momento Pi» de la Historia fue en marzo 14 de 1592 a las 6.53 y 58 segundos, momento que corresponde a los valores de los 12 primeros dígitos de Pi.
